Aims and Objectives:
Overall Aim: Increase awareness and understanding of atypical forms of diabetes among UK Nurses and Social Care Workers, both in residential and domiciliary settings, to enhance their ability to provide appropriate care and support to individuals with diabetes.
Learning Objectives:
Understand what atypical diabetes is and how it differs from type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Recognise the signs and symptoms that might suggest someone has an atypical type of diabetes.
Be aware of the main types of atypical diabetes (e.g. MODY, LADA, steroid-induced).
Know who to speak to or where to go for help if atypical diabetes is suspected.
Understand how to support people with diabetes in their daily lives, especially in care settings.
Be aware of the risks and complications if diabetes is not properly managed.
